چکیده

With growing interest for the use of one-dimensional (1-D) zeolites in separation and reaction processes, the need to understand diffusion and transport properties of molecules within the channels of these materials is becoming more eminent. The mechanism used to describe passage of molecules inside narrow 1-D micropores is called single-file diffusion. Typically, this behavior is observed within 1-D pore structures with channel diameters comparable to size of diffusing molecules. Under this circumstance, molecules cannot pass over one another resulting into high degree of mutual correlation between the movements of different molecules. In this paper, we report an experimental confirmation of single-file mechanism in toluene/ZSM-12 system using tracer Zero Length Column (TZLC) technique. Experimental Details

Towards Observation of Single-File Diffusion Using TZLC

1. Introduction The growing interest in the application of one-dimensional (1D) molecular sieves both as solid catalysts and selective adsorbents has stimulated considerable attention in the study of diffusive transport of guest molecules in the 1D pores. It has been established that normal Fickian diffusion is not necessarily applicable to describe the diffusion mechanism of guest-host interac...

Modeling Jump Diffusion in Zeolites: II. Applications

We review recent applications of jump models for diffusion in zeolites. We describe the results of a coarse-grained model of the interplay between zeolite anisotropy and disorder, finding that certain disorder patterns can change how anisotropy controls membrane permeation. We show the results of a lattice model for single-file diffusion in zeolite membranes, demonstrating how single-file motio...

Diffusion of CO2 in ion-exchanged zeolites Rho studied by the ZLC technique

The ZLC technique, first introduced for diffusion measurements in zeolites, has been continuously developed proving its validity in the investigation of the kinetic and equilibrium properties in solid adsorbents. The very small size of the column offers several key advantages compared to other experimental methods: foremost, the small required sample quantity (1–2 mg for kinetic measurements to...

Basolateral potassium channel in turtle colon. Evidence for single-file ion flow

Treatment of the apical surface of the isolated, ouabain-inhibited turtle colon with the polyene antibiotic amphotericin B permitted the properties of a barium-sensitive potassium conductance in the basolateral membrane to be discerned from the measurements of transepithelial fluxes and electrical currents. Simultaneous measurements of potassium currents and 42K fluxes showed that the movement ...

Langevin formulation for single-file diffusion.

We introduce a stochastic equation for the microscopic motion of a tagged particle in the single-file model. This equation provides a compact representation of several of the system's properties such as fluctuation-dissipation and linear-response relations, achieved by means of a diffusion noise approach. Most importantly, the proposed Langevin equation reproduces quantitatively the three tempo...
